Is Hiring an Interior Designer a Luxury Right Now? Well, Spending Countless Hours and Money on Paint are, too…

I have written numerous articles over 10 years of having my business including most recent articles on still staging and decorating in this economy.  I know you are wondering, “How can I avoid a designer in these economical times?”  You can, I promise.   In decorating yourself, you will most likely spend more money in trying to “decorate yourself”.  You have spent countless hours at the paint store, and the paint store staff knows you by name.  Just look at all the samples you have purchased. STOP!!!  That money could go to a professional interior designer to come into your home or business and help you make wise decisions that will allow you to spend more time with your family and less money.  Ok Renee, but I love decorating.  Loving to decorate, spending countless hours and unnecessary money, running to and from the paint store, is not the love for decorating that you want to experience.

One of the most costly mistakes when it comes to decorating is selecting paint color.  So, invest your money wisely on a color consultation and I guarantee you will save time, money and your marriage. Yes, your marriage.  I love the dreaded looks of many husbands at the paint stores or furniture stores trying to complete that “honey do list” and having to suffer through the paint selection process.  One of my previous clients’ stated the best money he spent was hiring Interiors by Renee & Associates, Inc. to come into his home and conduct a color consultation.  The clients realized that the 2 hour visit to have a design expert come and assist them with their color selection was worth the investment.  These clients painted the room 3 times, and thought was the perfect shade of red each time.  Not only did they waste countless times going to and from the paint store; not to mention the money spent on 4 to 6 gallons of paint.  Two weeks ago, I received a call at 9:15pm.  Renee help!  “We tried to do it ourselves, but we were not successful”.  “The color was beautiful at the model home, we visited but it is too yellow in our house”.  I asked “what color did you choose”?   Before they could tell me what they hated, I told them the problem they were experiencing.  They asked very frustrated, “How did you know?”  I have been designing for 10 years.  I look at more than just the color.  I look at the lighting, flooring, furniture and other things to determine the best color.  One crucial fact is, the wrong light bulb can impact the color on the swatch.  HINT: Try the reveal bulbs. So let’s talk about why you would hire a specialist/certified interior designer.

First, you would not hire yourself to complete a home inspection on the house you are about to purchase.  Secondly, you would not hire anyone to come in and repair your roof if they were not an experienced roofer.  Therefore, you should not rule out hiring a professional designer to help you make wise decisions about your home or business interior/exterior when your families comfort and resale relies on it.
